Nous avons le plaisir de vous inviter à la prochaine séance PEMS (Paris Early Modern Seminar/Séminaire interuniversitaire sur la première modernité britannique (1500-1700) qui aura lieu le vendredi 29 mars 2019 de 17h30 à 19h30, à la Bibliothèque Interuniversitaire de la Sorbonne (17 rue de La Sorbonne, 75005). Cette séance est soutenue par le CREA (EA 370, Université Paris Nanterre). Nous y entendrons une intervention du Professeur John Drakakis (University of Stirling): “Shakespeare and the sounds of silence » (discutante: Anny Crunelle).

About the speaker :

John Drakakis is Emeritus Professor at the University of Stirling. He is the author of Shakespearean Discourses (Routledge 2008); Shakespearean Tragedy (Longman, 2014); Tragedy (Longman, 2014), with Naomi Conn Liebler. He has published many articles, and edited or coedited a vast number of books on Renaissance and Early Modern literature and drama, including the landmark Alternative Shakespeares (Routledge 1985, 2nd ed 2002); and more recently Antony and Cleopatra (Palgrave, 1994); Gothic Shakespeares (Routledge, 2008), with Dale Townshend; Macbeth: A Critical Reader (Arden Early Modern Drama Guides Series, 2013); Performing the Renaissance Body: Essays on Drama, Law, and Representation, with Sidia Fiorato (de Gruyter, 2016). He has edited the New Arden Shakespeare edition (Third Series) of The Merchant of Venice (2006), and is coordinating a revision of Geoffrey Bullough’s Narrative and Dramatic Sources of Shakespeare. He was the General Editor of the Routledge English Texts, and is currently the General Editor of the Routledge New Critical Idiom Series. His most recent book is Shakespeare and Cultural Materialism (Oxford, Berghahn Books, forthcoming).
